SPECIAL MESSAGES for PROFESSIONALS

PHYSICIANS, THERAPISTS
& HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

We believe that alcoholism or drug addiction is a primary illness that is the underlying reason for many other conditions. Unless the chemical dependency is dealt with, other medical problems cannot be treated successfully, nor can long-term positive results be expected.

The physician or therapist has a role to play, not just in identifying chemical dependency, but also in helping the patient find the right treatment program that can bring about a lasting resolution. Livengrin works closely with these professionals as a partner in treating their patients, providing a continuum of care that family doctors and healthcare specialists can rely on.

EMPLOYERS, UNIONS & HUMAN RESOURCES

By the time an employer or other manager becomes aware of a worker’s “personal problem,” that issue has already affected his or her family and other parts of their life.  The workplace is often the last area that is affected by addiction. (The paycheck is for more than "making a living" – it supports the addiction!)

An employer, union rep or workplace professional should know that, once this problem arises, it’s already time for action.  We at Livengrin work closely with owners and HR staff in businesses of all sizes, to treat a worker's chemical dependency and then return that person to a functioning level, as a reliable, trustworthy employee.  Livengrin's continuum of care is the key, and we stay in touch with the employer for as long as it takes – for them, as well as for the worker.

LEGAL

We understand what an attorney, probation officer or other legal professional needs to accomplish in a particular case. Many people with an addiction problem end up in the legal system. Research and experience show us that simply solving a legal problem for "right now" doesn't address the underlying issue of addiction.

We work closely with legal professionals and the criminal justice system to provide a foundation for a person's lifetime recovery, for stability and freedom – the result being that the individual avoids returning to rehab or to the system. Livengrin is a partner with the legal professional, helping the individual find the right program that has the continuum of care to bring about long-lasting results.

SPIRITUAL & FAITH LEADERS

When someone comes to Livengrin, they often feel like they've been deserted by the world, that nobody understands what they're going through, and that the overwhelming power of their addiction is stronger than anything else. Patients and their loved ones have lost hope that there can be a better life without alcohol or drugs.

Livengrin works closely with spiritual advisors of all faiths to bring that hope back to the individual. The organization doesn't insist on any particular religious or spiritual theme, but we do our best to show patients that there is a spiritual element to recovery. As one sees in most 12-step programs, there can be, and should be, a spiritual transition that helps to bring the patient back to humanity, back to a connection with the world, and often to some definition of a higher power in which the patient can place some faith that contributes to the success of treatment.
